Homemade Soft Pretzels

Soft Pretzels Are Amazing!

Soft pretzels are a beloved snack and street food that can be found in many parts of the world. These chewy, salty treats are made from a simple dough that is shaped into a knot or twist and then boiled in a solution of baking soda and water before being baked.

If you haven’t tried it yet, these pretzels go great with a Hard Cider Cheese Dip. These are also delicious to have with warm caramel or just plain!

Getting the Gold

To achieve the golden crispiness, I brushed a lightly beaten egg before putting them in the oven. Before baking, this is the opportunity to sprinkle salt or any other toppings (cheese, veggie, pepperoni, etc.)

Overall, soft pretzels are a tasty and beloved snack that are enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether you’re looking for a quick snack on the go or a tasty treat to share with friends and family, soft pretzels are sure to satisfy your cravings.

Soft Handmade Pretzels

This easy dough baked into these cute little knots are delicious and a great snack to pairs with a variety of flavors

  • Mixing Bowls
  • kitchen scale
  • steel pot
  • baking pans
  • parchment paper
  • dough scraper
  • pastry brush
  • 175 grams water (warm (90 – 110F))
  • 10 grams kosher salt
  • 7 grams granulated sugar
  • 3.5 grams active dry yeast
  • 335 grams all-purpose flour
  • 11 grams vegetable oil (to mix with the dough)
  • vegetable oil (for coating the bowl)
  • 82 grams baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • coarse salt (for topping)
  1. In a bowl, mix/whisk water, salt, and sugar until combined.

  2. Add yeast, and let rest for 5 minutes until yeast starts to foam

  3. Add flour and the 11 grams oil to the yeast and mix thoroughly until a dough form

  4. Remove the dough and use the remaining oil to cover the bowl

  5. Add the dough back into the oiled bowl and cover with plastic or wax wrap. Leave it in a warm place for 1hour Preheat oven to 450 F / 230 C

  6. Preheat oven to 450 F / 230 C. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.

  7. Cut/portion dough into pieces and roll them out into balls. I did about 80 grams, because I like them smaller

  8. Fill a pot about 3.25 quarts of water and bring it to a boil on high

  9. Once it is in a rolling bowl add the baking soda slowly as the foam will come up quickly. Bring the heat down to medium

  10. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds per side.

  11. Transfer pretzels to a baking sheet, brush with egg wash and sprinkle with salt. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until golden brown. Time here can be different based on the size you made each ball
